The River (2018) is a graphically notated piece for open-instrumentation chamber ensemble, that was composed, workshopped, and performed during the 2018 Performer-Composer Residency at the Westben Centre for Connection and Creativity, in Campbellford Ontario.
This piece utilizes a pictographic notation language to explore different modes of listening and performer interaction, sonic structures, spectral and temporal density, memory, and presence.
Over the course of the week-long residency, I led the participants through a workshop/rehearsal to become acquainted with the notation language, and guided them on a site-specific walk to explore the rivers and forest paths that inspired this work.
