Stockhausen by Proxy Syndrome is a piece for trumpet, MIGSI, and telematic vocalist. Sarah plays fragments of Karlheinz Stockhausen: Tierkreis on trumpet. A ChucK program “listens” to what she plays and translates pitches in real time, mapping them to phonemes, and transmits that to Perry via OSC. Perry, in a “clean room” far away, receives the phonemes in real time, and says/sings them back to Sarah. Using MIGSI, Sarah will send other performance data (trumpet position, hand tension, etc) to Perry and map them to extra pitches for him to sing, as well as animations. The result is a real-time feedback based score/duet.
Performed by Sarah Belle Reid and Perry Cook in May 2015 at the Digital Arts Expo, California Institute of the Arts.
