Flicker
for Reed Means | composed Sept 2017, SBR
Performance of Flicker, composed by Sarah Belle Reid, performed and realized by Reed Means.
Here are some notes from Reed about how he approached interpreting and realizing the score:
"When I first obtained this piece, I studied it for about a week. I noticed that my natural tendency was to read it from right to left. Since it is a multimedia work, I decided to use the shapes as a kind of “roadmap” of movement, both audibly and visually, as well as a score. Many elements of the score actually trail off the page. I have used this to give myself permission to tie the loose ends. The majority of the score is curved lines, with only one instance of a mildly straight-line theme. I had trouble deciding which instrument I wanted to use for this piece. I saw a lot of potential for a synthesizer, but I ended up choosing my 7 string guitar, and my Loomer pedal (by Keeley Engineering).”
