Here is a description from James Clark about how he approached his interpretation:
“This was a challenging exercise, as I’m accustomed to the very linear arrangement of traditional musical notation. I took this one more holistically, as there was no discernible path for me through this particular score. From the very beginning, I saw the various clusters as strange, archaic beings. I also see a lot of delay in the progressive dots, warbly synth in the squiggly line, etc. Given the title “Impalpable” paired with my scattered, non-linear observations I had tried various ways of having some underlying uniformity of rhythm, while making that underlying thread at times be less forward.
For me, this was a to and fro of connectivity and disconnectivity between the left and right halves of the score respectively, thus the toggling order and chaos of the underlying prominent rhythmic noise from the modular synth patch.”
