Here are some notes from Andrew on how he approached performing the piece:
βThe letter I received on the back of "Reflect" said, "imagine the markings of the score to spin, accelerate, collide, disappear, and reflect." Considering energy in this way made me focus on feelings of inertia, direction changes, and interactions that the elements of the score develop. I broke the elements of "Reflect" into 3 basic parts, the large circles in the center, the dot trails, and what I have called "the heartbeat lines." The large circles in the center became these gyroscopic wheels that spin slowly and gain power and momentum, the arrows guide the energy that is collected inside these wheels to other elements in the score that have their own method of travelling. I use the heartbeat lines to travel from one side of the score to the other, passing the dot trails on the way. The score almost becomes a perpetual motion machine at some point as I'm just following accelerations into collisions. It only felt right to end the piece with a huge collision as the energies become unsustainable.β
